Whenever I see people who are wholly dedicated to getting their physical bodies in shape, I can't but help wonder if similar efforts are being put towards their spiritual bodies.
Don't get me wrong – striving for and maintaining a healthy body is a commendable goal. It requires both discipline and dedication that are truly admirable.
But it really pains me when those same individuals are giving only a fraction of that effort towards their spiritual selves.
The similitude of embarking on such misplaced priorities is like the traveler who foolishly puts so much effort into refurbishing his hotel room – furnishing it with new fixtures, painting it anew, and buying appliances – while neglecting his permanent decrepit home, which is unfortunately suffering from negligence and carelessness.
How foolish for us to focus so much of our energies on our temporal bodies while forgetting our eternal bodies?
Nothing wrong with keeping a tidy hotel room, but let's not forget the maintenance required of our dilapidated dwellings of permanent residence.
Better yet, forget maintenance - let's try some major renovation, maybe even total reconstruction, of our run-down homes.

Do you have a webcam on me or something, i just started recently doing some regular exercise again and now i read your post!
Salaam
A lot of times I feel like I am working ok for my spiritual body, I go to the mosque and listen to lectures and read Qur'an and my iman is pretty high. But I go home and I'm lazy, I sit on the sofa, and don't strain my physical body at all. And to be quite honest, I think if I don't work on my physical body then I can't benefit my spiritual body either... need to work on both, really.

AA- Anon,
Madina is very different from Riyadh. From what I've heard, its much cheaper to live over there, so I can't really tell you what's good for Madina. Also, I'm not familiar with the schools over there.
I've been told told that salaries for Madina are usually lower due to the Islamic-factor that attracts many sincere folks. But its sorta compensated by the lower cost of living.
In the end, it really comes down to personal preferences and how badly you wanna live there.
I would recommend getting in touch with Sis. Suhaa - she's one of the Saudi blogs on my blogroll.
AA-
@Arif, keep up your workouts, but at the same time, don't forget your other obligations. :-)
@Amy, Good point. A strong body will lead to a strong mind/spirit and vice versa. Surely the proper balance is most desirable.
But unfortunately, in these times where the body is given all the attention, we need to bring attention back to what really counts - the spirit.
